HOW TO SEARCH
Basic Search:
From any page on the site, you may perform a keyword search using the box in the
upper right corner of the page.
Searching within Words and Phrases:
If a keyword does not return the results you expected, try broadening your search
to include that keyword within words, phrases or formulas. There is a wildcard radio
button below the keyword box on the Narrow Your Search Sidebar as well as on the
Advanced Search page.
Advanced Search:
The Advanced Search (accessible from any page via the link under the keyword search
box) allows you to narrow your search with multiple specific parameters. In most
cases, refinement is allowed by adding numeric values, units of measure, or other
appropriate restrictions to each sub-parameter. This query returns those data records
matching only the selected combination of parameters.
A search can
be refined after you've conducted a query by using the Narrow Your Search sidebar.
Your previous search criteria are retained on this bar and can be modified if you
wish. Once any modifications are made, click the Revise Search button at the bottom
of the sidebar.
HOW TO BROWSE
The buttons located under BROWSE NANOMATERIALS on the homepage allow the user to
review all nanomaterials of a chosen material type, size, endpoint, surface area
or surface charge. Hovering the cursor over these buttons reveals fly out menus
that allow further refinement for this query type.
Reordering Search Results
Once a selection has been made and the results returned, the listing may be conveniently
reordered by the user. Hovering the cursor over the ARRANGE BY button in the upper
right reveals a drop-down menu that allows the data to be arranged in a number of
ways, including (but not limited to) name, date or compliance type.
HOW TO FIND SIMILAR NANOMATERIALS
From any given nanomaterial entry data page, you may select the FIND SIMILAR NANOMATERIALS
button below the header information bar. Clicking this button will return a list
of nanomaterials closely related to the currently viewed nanomaterial.
HOW TO COMPARE NANOMATERIALS SIDE BY SIDE
In order to compare nanomaterial data side-by-side, start from a query results table,
which you can get to by any of three methods: (1) perform a search, (2) a browse,
or (3) select the FIND SIMILAR NANOMATERIALS button from any individual nanomaterial
entry's data page. Once you have reached a query results table, select two to three
nanomaterials for comparison and, with your cursor, click the COMPARE SELECTED button.
Instances of Characterization Display
The next page you see is an intermediate page on which all Instances of Characterization
(IOC) for the selected nanomaterials are displayed along with what data was characterized
at that IOC. Each IOC is an individual data set within a nanomaterial entry, and
only three data sets may be compared. Observe the nanomaterial entry IOCs and choose
those with data of interest to you. Click the COMPARE SELECTED button once more
and the side-by-side comparison will be presented.
HOW TO EXPORT NANOMATERIAL REGISTRY DATA
Note: By using the data export tool you will be able to download an Excel spreadsheet
of nanomaterial physico-chemical data that we have curated into the Registry from
various resources. The amount of curated data available for any Registry record may
be sparse or very detailed, depending on the data available from the original resource.
From Search and Browse Results:
In order to export nanomaterial data, navigate to a query results table, by either
performing a search or a browse. Once on the query results table, select the "Export
Data for these Results" button located just below the "Total Results Found"
header. After clicking the export button, you will be directed to a secondary page
containing several questions. Once these questions have been answered, the data
export button will become active and you can download, into an Excel file, all of
the nanomaterial data from your query. The file can be saved to your computer or
opened for viewing.
From a Nanomaterial Details Page:
In order to export individual nanomaterial data, start from a query results table,
by either performing a search or a browse. Once on the query results table, select
the desired nanomaterial to view in detail. Click on the nanomaterial detail header
"Export Data for this Nanomaterial" button located to the right of the
"NR Descriptor."
After clicking the export button, you will be directed to a secondary page containing
several questions. Once these questions have been answered, the data export button
will become active and you can download, into an Excel file, the nanomaterial details.
The file can be saved to your computer or opened for viewing.
